It’s official – there is absolutely no stopping Ariana Grande right now. The vocal powerhouse has stormed to the top of the UK Albums Chart with her latest offering thank u, next, whilst also achieving a new record breaking feat over on the UK Singles Chart.
thank u, next, Ariana’s second album in six months, was released last Friday and unsurprisingly debuted at number one, becoming the third UK number one album of her career after Dangerous Woman and Sweetener.
Notching up 65,000 combined sales, including 59 million streams across the album, Ariana has broken her own record for the most album streams ever by a female artist in a week. According to OfficialCharts.com, thank u, next is also “the third most streamed album in its first week overall, behind Ed Sheeran’s Divide and Drake’s Scorpion“.
Ariana has also set a new chart record over on the Singles Chart. Her latest single ‘Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored’ has debuted at number one this week, knocking her previous number one ‘7 Rings’ off the top spot. In the process she has become the first female artist in UK chart history to replace herself at the top of the chart.
She also joins Madonna as the only female artist to hold a number one and two spot on the chart simultaneously. Madonna previously achieved this feat in August 1985 with her singles ‘Into The Groove’ and ‘Holiday’.
If that wasn’t enough, Ariana also joins Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Justin Bieber as one of the few artists to achieve three number one singles in under 100 days.
Taking to Twitter, Ariana thanked her UK fans for their support and shared her excitement at coming to visit on her forthcoming tour.
This is just a slice of the incredible chart feats that Ariana has achieved with thank u, next so far. The songstress has broken the all-time single streaming record for a female artist in the US, and has broken several records on Apple Music.
