It's the day you and I and millions of other Tinder users have been waiting for: Tinder Gold is now available in the U.S.— and the rest of the world. The members-only service allows you to see who likes you before swiping right on them, among other perks. So, with the Likes You feature, when you do swipe right, you can be confident that the person is into you, too. It sounds like a win-win for both swipers! In addition, you and your new Tinder match can begin messaging right away. And, TBH, how many people have you matched with in the past, then never write to? Hopefully, with Tinder Gold, fewer matches will get lost in the shuffle. And since over 100 million people have downloaded Tinder to date, that means there are a ~lot~ of potential matches out there.
The Tinder Gold feature began testing back in late June, but outside of the U.S. — in Argentina, Australia, Canada, and Mexico. Apparently, the testing went well, so now the entire world can reap the benefits of the latest addition to the app. "Tinder Gold gives users the fun of swiping paired with the added bonus of seeing who's swiped right on them first," Brian Norgard, Chief Product Officer at Tinder, tells Bustle. "We love looking for new ways to help Tinder users match more efficiently. In our first month of testing, subscribers received 60 percent more matches with Tinder Gold — and we're excited to roll it out to users around the world."
How The "Likes You" Feature Works
With the Likes You feature, you will see your likes at the top of your match list. When, when you're going through your Likes You grid, you'll be able to auto-match, dismiss, or click into each person's profile to check them out further. As for who's swiped right on you, be on the lookout for a gold heart with three stripes next to peoples' names who have already swiped right on you. Easy and a time-saver, right?
Tinder Golds' Other Features
Aside from the Likes You addition, Tinder Gold also includes other exclusive features — Passport, Rewind, Unlimited Likes, five Super Likes per day, one Boost per month, and more profile controls. Yes, please!
Here's the DL on these:
Passport: If you're in Chicago but are about to travel to Paris and want to start swiping on people there before you even arrive, Tinder's Passport feature maybe for you. Yep, all you do is change your location, so once your plane lands, instead of taking time to swipe right on people, you can already have some Tinder dates lined up.
Rewind: Did you accidentally swipe left on someone when you meant to swipe right? It happens to the best of us. With Rewind, you can undo your mistaken swipe.
Unlimited Likes: Did you know that, with Tinder, there's a limit to how many people you can swipe right on within 12 hours? Unless you have Tinder Plus or Gold, you only get 100 likes (aka right swipes) every 12 hours. Who knew?! I've never seen the notice come up that I'm out of likes, so I guess I either don't swipe too much or don't swipe enough!
Super Likes: You know when you may like Person A, but you really like Person B? That's exactly the purpose of Tinder's Super Likes. So you may be swiping along — swipe right, swipe right, swipe right — and then you see someone that catches you attention more than anyone else. So then you SUPER like them, and you swipe UP, not right or left. You get one Super Like per day, but with Tinder Gold, you can have five.
Boost: If you want your Tinder profile to be seen by more people, the Boost feature is the way. For a limited amount of time, more potential matches are shown your profile. When you are in Boost mode, you'll appear as a "top profile" in the area, aka your profile showing up before other people's, aka your competition, so to speak.
How Much Does All This Cost?
"We are testing Tinder Gold pricing," says a Tinder spokesperson. "Tinder Plus subscribers can pay a small fee to upgrade to Tinder Gold. Non-subscribers can also upgrade directly to Tinder Gold (which includes all Tinder Plus features). As with Tinder's existing paid features, a longer-term subscription to Tinder Gold will provide a discount compared to purchasing one month."
Meanwhile, others are speculating on the price of Tinder Gold. Engadget reported that Tinder Gold will be $5 per month (though "this price isn't set in stone"). And Buzzfeed News, too, said Tinder will charge around $4.99 for most users. Personally, I think $5 a month is well worth it for less dating stress and more knowledge (i.e., who Likes You).
As for Tinder Plus pricing, it is currently $9.99 per month for users under 30 years old, and $19.99 per month for users over 30. A Tinder spokesperson says that $9.99 is the most common Tinder Plus subscription price for users, "but it is not the only one — we are also testing other price points and pricing may vary by market."
But Not Everyone Can Upgrade To Tinder Gold Yet
At the moment, Tinder Gold's worldwide launch is only available for iOS users. But, Android users, don't lose hope! With the popularity of Tinder among Android users, too, I have no doubt it'll also become available to you; hopefully sooner, not later. According to The Verge, Tinder will release Gold to Android devices next month, and a month is not too long in the grand scheme of dating — it sounds like it's a service worth waiting for.
