Dr. Shannon Curry Johhny Depp
Dr. Curry testified on behalf of Johnny Depp during his defamation trial on April 26, 2022. She said she was initially hired in 2021 to review files in the legal battle between the two feuding exes and identify behavior in their relationship that may be consistent with ’intimate partner violence’. In October 2021 her role shifted after she was asked to provide a psychological evaluation of Heard.
She told jurors that she believed Johnny’s ex wife Amber Heard had borderline personality disorder and Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD). She testified that Depp’s team asked her to provide an expert opinion in the defamation case between the actors about whether she found evidence of “intimate partner violence” from when the two were married.
Curry said she conducted an at least 12-hour psychological evaluation of Heard during two sessions in December 2021, reviewed case documents, medical records, and recordings of the pair. She added that as a result of these disorders, somebody like Heard could appear charming at the start of a friendship or relationship but could then turn dark easily.
’You’ll see relationships start very intensely, extremely close. This might be their perfect soulmate and initially everything seems great but reality sets in, people are not perfect. Most of us accept people as a whole, [but] with a person with BPD, things are in these extremes, that person goes from being idealized to dumpster, they are totally devalued, they’re the worst….then there will be a repair because the person with this disorder does feel remorse.’
