A “grand” five-storey mansion in Melbourne’s east boasting its own indoor squash court is proving a hit with buyers – but they will need deep pockets to pay the $4.8m-$5.2m asking price.
Luxurious features of the estate at 33 Chivers Rd, Templestowe, include an indoor pool and spa, a gym, wine cellar, tennis court, home theatre and 5322sq m of parklike gardens.
The house was extensively renovated by the owners who purchased the property for $720,000 in 2006, according to CoreLogic.

Jellis Craig Doncaster agent Edison Kong said the vendors liked the option of being able to use the squash court for soccer, basketball or martial arts.
Guests entering the palatial home step into an entry foyer where a soaring 7m ceiling is adorned by twin crystal chandeliers.
Mr Kong said overseas buyers were showing interest in the abode including Australians living in Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and Singapore.
“The home is definitely elegant and grand, it’s unique and special, you can’t find anything like it on the market,” Mr Kong said.
“You could find something with a big amount of land further east or further north, but nothing at this size as close to the city as Templestowe, let alone a home with all the features this has.”
The owners, who are downsizing from their five-bedroom property, appointed architect Michael Scalzo to design the renovation including a main bedroom accompanied by a balcony, retreat living area, walk-in wardrobe and ensuite.
A separate loft featuring a kitchen and patio offering “amazing views” is accessed from the main bedroom, while a self-contained apartment is located on a lower level.
The home’s gas and solar-heated swimming pool is complemented by a steam room and nearby bathroom.
The floodlit tennis court is set alongside a cabana with kitchenette and bi-fold doors.
“It’s easy to entertain more than 100 people in the house, for sure,” Mr Kong added.
Mr Kong said most purchasers reacted to the mansion with “wow after wow”.
“People just can’t believe it,” he said.
Five Templestowe houses have sold for more than $5.03m including 327-329 Church Rd which set the suburb’s $6.9m house price record in 2008, records show.
